This project converted the historic
Fraternal Order of Eagles Building into a state-of-the-art performance
space for A Contemporary Theatre, one of Seattle’s leading
professional, non-profit theatre companies.
Abandoned for 20 years, the renovation
of this building signaled the beginning of a renaissance in the
Pike/Pine area of downtown Seattle. The space now contains three
theatres, administrative offices, rehearsal spaces, scene and costume
shops. In addition, the top floor has # of units of low-income housing.
Maria Barrientos worked with historic
preservation officials at the city, state, and national levels while
also providing project management services during the programming and
construction phases. She coordinated the complex mix of public and
private funds, as well as managed private placement of low income and
historic tax credits monitored by the State Housing Finance Commission.
This project exemplifies the vitality
of a successful mixed-use project, while turning a vacant building into
a thriving cultural center.
